Suno connects to ChatGPT and Claude to make music in the chat

On October 28, Suno introduced an MCP beta that connects its music service to ChatGPT, Claude and other compatible AI assistants. Once connected, you can discuss a song idea with an assistant and ask Suno to generate it without switching tabs. The company is currently inviting users to sign up for early access.

Imagine planning a video in a chat: we discuss its mood, text and scenes, then ask for music to go with it. The assistant can use the context of the conversation, while Suno creates the composition. The finished track appears in your Suno library.

What can you do with music in a chat?

According to Suno's announcement, you can describe a song in everyday language, discuss its lyrics and style with the assistant, and then request a generation. For example: “Make a calm instrumental track for a countryside travel video, with acoustic guitar and soft drums.”

That's not the only starting point. Suno says you can upload a voice memo or a short audio loop and turn it into a song. You can also make covers, extend tracks or create mashups from songs in your library. Generated songs are saved to your Suno library, and you can add them to a playlist from the chat.

What interests me is the workflow: we discuss the task, refine the details and create music in the same conversation. That can be useful when the track is for a specific project and its mood is already part of the conversation. You still need to listen to the result: a connection doesn't guarantee the first version will fit your video.

Who is it useful for?

Video and podcast creators can ask for music that matches a script they've already discussed. Songwriters can develop an idea, lyrics and style with the assistant before generation. And if you have your own voice memo or loop, you can use it as a starting point for a composition.

Here's a conversation to try after connecting Suno:

  1. “Help me plan music for a short countryside travel video. I want a calm, warm mood.”
  2. “Add acoustic guitar and soft drums, and keep the track instrumental.”
  3. “Create this music with Suno.”

This is an example prompt, not the result of our own test. Listen to the generated track and, if needed, ask for another version with a different tempo, mood or choice of instruments.

How to connect Suno

MCP, or Model Context Protocol, is a way to connect external tools to an AI assistant. Here it links the chat to your Suno account. Suno lists ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Claude Code and Cursor among compatible clients, though setup differs between apps.

In its setup guide, Suno says to open Customize → Connectors in Claude, add a custom connector and enter https://api.suno.com/mcp. For ChatGPT, it describes adding a custom MCP server through Plugins. Then sign in to Suno and authorize the connection; no separate API key is needed.

There are two access conditions to check. Suno invites users to sign up for early access, so availability for your account should be confirmed after registration. Suno also says that some apps only offer custom connections on certain paid plans. Check the options in your assistant before starting.

Cost, library and usage rights

Suno says MCP works with all of its plans, including Free. Creating songs uses credits from your Suno account under your plan's terms. A free Suno plan doesn't necessarily mean that custom connections are available on your assistant's free plan: the two services have separate conditions.

You can find finished songs in your Suno library alongside your other creations. If the connection doesn't appear automatically, Suno's help center recommends checking MCP support, adding Suno as a custom connection and completing sign-in and authorization.

If you need music for a commercial project, check the rights for the specific track first. Suno says trial downloads on its free plan are for personal, non-commercial use, while downloads under a paid subscription grant commercial use rights subject to its terms. Remixes and material belonging to someone else have additional restrictions. See Suno's guidance on downloads and remixes.

If you'd like to explore music generation first, see our Suno guide and Suno prompt examples. To create a track directly without setting up a chat connection, Suno is also available in GPTunneL. The announcement does not confirm that Suno MCP itself works inside GPTunneL.
